Warm Wednesday Words: Peace

I was a child of the 60’s and blossomed in the  70’s, “the Peace Movement decade”, which was anything but peaceful.  The lingering Vietnam war, campus riots, the Jim Jones mass suicide/murder case and many other social injustices brewed anger.  Peace signs were everywhere from wall graffiti to embroidered on our bell bottoms, purses, and book covers.

second pic of the BeatlesThe church embraced the peace movement in so far as connecting with the culture and we sang songs such as the one below.  Youth groups became the poster child of the traditional church, meeting in coffee houses and other such non traditional settings.

Often the most vociferous protestors for peace seemed to emanate the least amount of it.  But in spite of a decade or more of clamoring for political and public peace, it remained illusive on many levels.  That’s not really surprising because true peace is not about our circumstances or world affairs that effect us.  Circumstances may rock our world, but they can’t steal our inner peace once we have time to reflect on God’s perspective.

peace protestorsOswald Chambers said in his August 26 “My Utmost for His Highest” devotional, ‘Are you painfully disturbed just now, distracted by the waves and billows of God’s providential permission…is all barren?  Then look up and receive the undisturbedness of the Lord Jesus.  Reflected peace is the proof that you are right with God because you are at liberty to turn your mind to Him.  If you are not right with God, you can never turn your mind anywhere but on yourself….Lay it all out before Him, and in the face of difficulty, bereavement and sorrow, hear Him…’  John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.”

Warm Wednesay Words: You’re not the Player You Think You Are

goodness & worthOn my own I’m a mess and have nothing worth sharing.  But to be fair, that’s the case with all of us.  The times I get my panties in a wad are often the very times that insidious pride has crept in somewhere.  As C.S. Lewis said, “the essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride.  Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison.”  But the truth is, none of us have anything of eternal worth to share without Christ.  But with Him and because of Him, we have worth and a story to share.  He makes beauty from ashes and gives us irrevocable gifts.   All we need to do is be willing to let Him use them and leave the response or results to Him, whether we see their effect this side of Heaven or not.

you are unique the world needs youHere are a few red ” subtle pride” flags I’ve become aware of:  when I feel like someone’s estimation of me matters, when I feel pressured to do something that someone thinks I should even though my own soul searching with God (even for goodwill sake) doesn’t confirm that, when I do the thing God has laid on my heart and instead of trusting God with it, allow disappointment that it meant little or nothing to someone that mattered to me.

Most people are fairly incensed about entitlement when it comes to politics.  Most  agree that too many folks are engorged on an entitlement attitude that takes money out of the pockets of the majority and puts it into an unfair welfare system.  However, perhaps a spiritual entitlement check is in order.

www.pinterest.comWithout God, I’m nothing.  I wouldn’t even be here.  But I am, and because of Him I experience abundant life.  The only thing I’m entitled to as Adam and Eve’s progeny (with the same propensity for sin) is eternal separation from a Holy God.  Keeping that in the back of my mind, helps me apply humility and long-suffering to the holes where pride and entitlement would otherwise seep in.

Thanks to Christ’s compassionate love for us and deep mercy, we who believe in Christ and His redemptive work on the cross are more than enough.  We were brought to a place of royalty…joint heirs with Christ Himself.  Now there’s a rags to riches true story for all time and eternity.   Do you allow your story to play in Christ’s cause?  No one but you can share your God given gifts and unique story!  Do you hold back from sharing what God has given you to share?   In Christ, we are all Most Valuable Players.

It is a sad day in our show me state if we let some seriously misguided St. Louis representatives and others  get away with sabotaging our freedom to possess most firearms with out being considered “felons”.  Here are some thoughts about the bill written in a post on Missouri Students for Concealed Carry, a facebook group.

“Time to hit the phones!
Yesterday, state Representatives Rory Ellinger (D-86) and Jill Schupp (D-88) introduced House Bill 545, anti-gun legislation that would turn many law-abiding gun owners into felons. HB 545 would ban the possession, sale, transfer or manufacture of certain semi-automatic rifles and magazines that are capable of holding more than ten rounds.

HB 545 contains no grandfather clauses. Therefore, under HB 545, if you are currently in possession of the semi-automatic rifles and magazines outlined in this bill, you will have 90 days from the effective date of this legislation to surrender, destroy or remove these currently lawful items from Missouri. If you fail to do so, you could be charged with a Class C felony if this legislation is passed and enacted into law.

Compelling law-abiding citizens to surrender their firearms and magazines is unconstitutional, wrong and another failed attempt to reduce crime. Criminals—by definition—violate laws, especially gun control laws. They will never surrender their firearms, or comply with any gun control scheme. HB 545 would only affect the lawful, while ignoring the actual problem of violent criminals who misuse firearms.”

I can’t help wondering what is in it for these big city representatives, and how many of their relatives and friends, not to mention the public they are there to represent, could be hurt and possibly imprisoned with this.  Here is their contact information:

Thought you might enjoy a link to a you tube post from a  freedom loving representative, Eric Burlison from Springfield, MO.   Thank God we still have some folks who make sense.

A Representative Mike Leara has another thought about what constitutes a felon, and his thoughts happen to be more constitutional, whether or not they are Politically Correct with the newest and most senseless emotional PC current going under the guise of “safety”.  Here is his bill.

Here is a link to find your representatives contact information (zip code box is on the right side of page)  and also a box to click on to follow any bill,  including 545.   And here is a link to purchase “Second Amendment Supporter” bracelets if you are interested.  Please make calls to protect our freedoms and keep our constitution, freedom loving, family and society protecting men out of the jails!  Every call is important.  These people bow to pressure.  They just don’t know who can apply the most pressure.  And most importantly, pray.  Pray for our nation and for our leaders.   To sit idly by and watch our constitution crumble based on distorted, emotional hype is no less than what the Germans did under Hitler.   Our God is bigger.  Our freedom does not rest in a nation, or it’s laws, but it certainly makes raising our families safer and easier.  Let’s unite and get busy before our government is successful in one more giant step toward tyranny.  Won’t you be more at peace for having tried regardless by taking action and not fearing the PC talk?   Let’s hope for success while we’re at it, before the constitution unravels.
